Role: Technical Lead

Job Summary

This hybrid role seeks an experienced technical professional with eight to twelve years of hands on delivery experience in IBM mainframe technologies and merchandising domain solutions. The Technical Lead will drive complex merchandising applications using Cobol JCL DB2 IMS DB VSAM and IBM mainframe utilities to support scalable retail operations and enhance business value across global markets.

Responsibilities

Drive design and implementation of complex merchandising applications using Cobol JCL IBM mainframe utilities DB2 IMS DB and VSAM to enable reliable and scalable retail processing solutions.
Coordinate end to end technical analysis for merchandising batch and online processes to ensure accurate item pricing and inventory data flows across integrated enterprise systems.
Optimize mainframe batch schedules and resource consumption to achieve stable day shift operations while meeting strict service level targets for merchandising business cycles.
Review and refine Cobol and JCL components to enhance performance maintainability and compliance with internal coding standards while reducing production incident rates.
Analyze DB2 and IMS DB data models underpinning merchandising functions to improve data integrity query efficiency and support for evolving retail assortment strategies.
Perform detailed impact assessments for changes in merchandising logic including promotions and stock allocation rules to reduce risk and maintain consistent downstream reporting.
Collaborate closely with product and merchandising domain experts to translate business requirements into precise technical specifications and mainframe solution designs.
Guide defect analysis and root cause resolution across mainframe utilities VSAM files DB2 tables and IMS segments to strengthen platform resilience and operational continuity.
Document technical solutions data flows and batch dependencies for merchandising systems to support audit readiness knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
Coordinate hybrid work model collaboration activities with distributed development testing and operations teams to ensure smooth deployment and steady day to day delivery.
Support production monitoring activities for key merchandising jobs during day shift windows to proactively identify issues and trigger timely remediation actions.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on automating repetitive support tasks on the mainframe stack to free capacity for high value merchandising enhancements.
Align technical solutions with enterprise sustainability and efficiency goals so mainframe merchandising capabilities contribute to reduced waste and better customer experiences.

Qualifications

Bring extensive experience in IBM mainframe utilities combined with strong proficiency in JCL Cobol VSAM DB2 and IMS DB to handle complex merchandising workloads effectively.
Demonstrate deep merchandising domain knowledge covering item setup pricing management allocation and inventory planning so technical decisions reflect real retail scenarios.
Apply strong skills in performance tuning problem solving and incident analysis across mainframe environments to stabilize mission critical merchandising processes.
Exhibit practical experience working in hybrid delivery models with global teams and day shift schedules ensuring predictable collaboration and reliable communication.
Use solid understanding of relational and hierarchical data concepts in DB2 and IMS DB to model and maintain merchandising data structures that support analytical needs.
Show capacity to write clear technical documentation for programs jobs and data mappings so complex merchandising solutions remain understandable and maintainable.
Display familiarity with standard software development practices including requirement analysis unit testing integration testing and change control in mainframe contexts.
Apply hands on experience in retail or merchandising technology transformations so enhancements support company objectives around customer satisfaction and market growth.

Certifications Required

Preferred certifications include IBM Certified Application Developer mainframe and industry recognized retail or merchandising technology credentials.
